In marketing, you don’t just get to create viral videos and fun graphics. A lot of what you do is also writing content. From blogs to newsletters, your copywriting skills need to be ready to handle anything. Now let’s be honest, we’re not writing dissertations, so we don’t have to always use proper language, and we can even get away with some text talk…lol
So, without further delay…
Here are our top five tips to make your copywriting speak to your audience.
- Know who you’re talking to.
Does your audience respond to short, quirky pieces of copy, or do they need more professional and in-depth content? You also want this to match the voice of your brand.
- Keep it short and sweet.
When people are reading, especially on social, they want to it be short, sweet, and to the point. Don’t have a super long paragraph, split it up into a variety of 2-3 sentences and make it scannable!
- Solve a problem, don’t sell.
Don’t talk about how amazing your product or service is. Tell them how you will solve their problem and make their life easier.
- Use the 4 C’s – Clear, Concise, Compelling, and Credible.
This will help your copy relate to your target audience.
- Visit sites like Reddit, Quora, and other forums.
See what people are saying about your product or service. Then make your copy sound like them. People buy from people who sound like them.
So, make sure you stay on brand, talk to your audience, solve their problems, keep it short, and relate to them. If you wouldn’t say it in a real conversation with someone, don’t put it in your content.
