At Hexcode Marketing, we don’t just build websites, we create digital experiences that your users will love. We know how your website looks is important, but functionality is what really gives your website the boost it needs. We can do all of that because of our amazing User Experience (UX) Designer, Micah. We’re heading into our next corner of expertise, and finding out how she develops each wireframe, theme, and conversion funnel she puts in place for our clients.
Micah was born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas. She always knew she wanted to help people, and completed her associate’s degree from Hutchinson Community College with the goal of becoming a nurse. After she had been in healthcare for a few years, she decided she wanted to help people in a more creative way. So she got a UX/UI certification through Designlab, and instead of helping people with their health, she started making sure websites stay healthy!
What is a professional accomplishment you’re proud of?
In 2023, I was chosen by the Wichita Business Journal as a Young Professional in Marketing. It was great to see that my work was noticed and I was included in such a talented group of people.
What are your favorite tools to use for your position?
I consider Google to be one of my closest friends as I do a lot of research for every project. However, Figma is my ride-or-die and I will use it to design websites forever. I’m not a master of WordPress like our web developer, but with this position, I’ve also had an opportunity to learn and become more familiar with this platform. It really allows me do so much more in my role for both Hexcode and our clients.
Who/what inspires you?
I’m big on observation, so I’m always looking and listening to what’s around me. Whether I’m on a walk, at a restaurant, in the car, or even just sitting in the office working and listening to music – I find most of my inspiration in simple, day-to-day things I see and hear.
How do you keep up with changes in the industry?
I turn to social media, mainly Instagram and LinkedIn, to consume new information on trends, best practices, and new developments in the web world. When I find something I think will benefit our clients or Hexcode, I give my bestie, Google, a call and do further research. Typically from there, I find myself reading blogs/articles or on Reddit seeing what others have experienced with whatever topic I’m learning more about.
What do you like most about the position?
I love that I get to wear a variety of hats in my role at Hexcode and work with clients in so many different industries. Although my focus is User Experience Design, my day-to-day tasks are almost never the same. Some days I am meeting with clients, helping them organize project timelines, others I’m researching and developing web strategy. The next day I’m wireframing one website and designing another. And some days I’m starring in reels (but you will never see me dance in them.) Occasionally after handing off a website design to our developer, I get to help him with the development side on the front-end. I love that I’m constantly challenged, it helps keep things interesting!
What has been your favorite project?
I’ve done SO many cool website projects at Hexcode, but one of my recent favorites is the website we created for Level 1 Nursing, which is a nurse staffing agency. They came to us looking for a way to streamline their job posting and hiring process. We created a custom job board platform within their website, which was a new challenge for me (which I love.) The most critical part of this was ensuring the website would function seamlessly on the admin side as well as the user side. It was (and still is) so rewarding to see everything fall into place and provide them a website that had all of the information they needed, functioned the way they wanted, and gave them the ability to easily staff our local hospitals with nurses. It was a truly perfect mix of my past and present professional passions.
What is your favorite thing about Hexcode?
One thing I love about working at Hexcode is there’s always a positive energy in the office. That makes it easy to maintain our collaborative environment. It doesn’t matter how busy my coworkers are, they are always willing to jump in to help on a project, provide feedback, answer a questions, or go for a walk. I also love that I’m the resident plant caregiver. I love being outside and my house is full of plants, so when our office plant needs some TLC, I’m happy to help!
Micah designs amazing websites for our clients, and her eagerness to learn new web skills makes her the perfect UX expert. From simple landing pages that provide information to customers while a website is being built, to a complex e-commerce website with lots of interactive components, she makes sure our client’s websites are functional, easy to navigate, and most importantly, stand out from the competition.
