Elise’s Thoughts:

“Got Milk?” stands out to me as one of the most unique and impactful marketing campaigns of all time, and it wasn’t even tied to a single product or brand. Launched by the California Milk Processor Board in 1993, the campaign’s goal was for milk to be more widely accepted by the mainstream for health reasons and to boost the dairy economy. The pioneering strategy to craft simple and iconic celebrity endorsements, silly commercials, and instantly recognizable messaging served elevate an everyday commodity into an iconic pop culture reference.

“Simple but Iconic Visuals and Messaging”

This is one of the most memorable marketing campaigns of all time- it managed to make such a deep cultural impact with no real associated logo or specific product. They were able to target an incredibly wide audience, effectively boosting milk consumption in American culture for decades. It was also an incredible usage of celebrity endorsement that completely changed the playing field. “Got Milk?” really opened the doors for marketing campaigns to have a direct impact and involvement in culture and trends.

Stay tuned for our installment next month when Diego raves about his favorite campaign for a highly anticipated video game drop involving cryptic poster advertising and image-forward marketing.
