We’re starting off with our Digital Marketing Specialist, Sarah Runyan. Let’s find out what Sarah does and how she became an expert in her corner.

Sarah has almost two decades of digital marketing experience through social media management, blog writing, digital ad management, and analyzing data from campaigns. She fell in love with social media back when Facebook first introduced business pages to its platform. At that time she was a general manager for a large casual dining chain, and soon figured out she was in the wrong profession. From restaurant management, she went into staffing where she helped a small agency build its clients, applicants, and brand through social media ads and campaigns. Then she went on to work with a national rewards program managing marketing campaigns for businesses all across the US. We asked her some questions to get some insight on what helps her create campaigns and strategies that deliver results for our clients. Let’s see what she had to say!

What is a professional accomplishment you’re proud of?

  • I have two professional accomplishments that are tied for first! Last year I was able to get over 6 million impressions in one month for a client on Google. And second, I was named one of the Wichita Business Journals Women Who Lead in Marketing. It was great being recognized with such talented women!

What are your favorite tools, websites, software, etc. that you use in your role?

  • Some of my favorite websites for staying up to date on trends are Hubspot and Google Skills Shop. I also love reading Viral Scoops and Buyology daily newsletters. For writing and keeping ad ideas fresh, I use the Meta ads library, and Google’s ad transparency center.

What do you like most about your position?

  • I really like being able to dive into the stats and analytics of ads to see what’s working and what’s not. Sometimes what works for one ad campaign won’t work for another so I have to be able to pivot on the strategy pretty quickly. Of course, seeing the results and hearing from our clients that they’re seeing an increase in business is always good too!

What has been your favorite project to work on?

  • I’ve really enjoyed working with 13 Sinister Souls each year. Even though we only get to work with them for a few months, being able to use video and get really creative with ads is fun. It might also be because Halloween is my second favorite holiday, and I love haunted houses!

How do you keep up with changes in your corner of marketing?

  • I read a LOT of newsletters, and blogs, and follow influencers. Ads are constantly changing with targeting, privacy issues, and new platforms to advertise through so I have to stay up to date on changes so I can make sure our clients’ ads are performing the best they can.

What is your favorite thing about Hexcode?

  • I love that we don’t niche down to market a specific industry. We have a diverse group of clients and it helps keep the day-to-day interesting. One day I might write a blog or ad copy for a roofing company, then a mattress company, then a real estate agent. Every day really is something different.
